Night and Day, It's a Great One

This has just been a wonderful day so far-- just wanted to blog about it. It doesn't take much to make me happy sometimes. I was post-call today, so had the day off. I started out the morning with a facial that I've had scheduled for quite some time-- it was awesome. Then I stopped by the Carter's store and got some baby gifts for our friend Susan's new 1 week-old baby, Riley. I had a working lunch out at a New Orleans restaurant owned by some very authentic New Orleans folks who were displaced by Katrina, and moved up North and started the restaurant. We met with a few of my doctor partners and a nurse from the hospital about starting a new preterm labor prevention program at the hospital-- a cause I feel particularly committed to, being the mommy of a pair of twins who were 9.5 weeks early. I really feel like we can help make a difference with this program, and it will literally cost the hospital nothing-- I am excited to get started on it. Then I was off to visit with Susan and her new baby for a few hours.

On the way home, I stopped at this great outdoor shopping center and donated money to the meter and made my way into one of the largest bookstores in our area. My purpose was to get my hands on a copy of a Jay Jay the Jet Plane book, which my son has FALLEN IN LOVE with, since he checked it out of his preschool's library 2 weeks ago. He has been faithfully reading Jay Jay every day, and had even taken to sleeping with the book. He had to return it today, so I vowed to come home with a copy for him. No such luck. The clerk informed me that Jay Jay is now out of print. I tried to explain to him how much Jakob loves this book, and that I really, really need it, but somehow he was unable to make it magically materialize in his store after my sob story. So I made my way out of the bookstore and across the Green to Victoria's Secret. Now for those of you who know me, I have lost a lot of weight in the past year. I love wearing all the cute clothes now. The one problem is that even though I have shrunk down everywhere else, my bust just won't budge. Try finding normal sized underclothes in a DD cup, and just watch the salespeople look at you with pity like you have a real problem. But I hit the jackpot at the VC store today, and found so many cute bras in my size on sale. No cute lingerie though-- apparently, they don't make anything in anything more than a C cup.
It was a virutal blizzard by the time I left, and it took me twice as long to get home. No problem, though, I had a few pre-op H&P's to dictate for upcoming surgeries, so I did that in the car as we all crawled along the interstate at 30 mph.
When I got home, I actually MADE DINNER for my family. I am NOT known as a cook. Most of the time, in fact, I HATE cooking. But I made a New Year;s resolution to try and be more interested, both from a cost savings and health benefits standpoint. Granted, I made a boxed dinner-- Polenta with Chicken Marinara-- but I will brag that I made it all by myself and I didn't ruin anything (trust me, this is an accomplishment to brag about in my case!). To top that off, I came home to a wonderfully CLEAN HOUSE!!! (We recently hired my wonderful mom to clean our home, after years of getting ripped off by a cleaning service-- who in the world coul clean your home better than your MOM???? I'm in HEAVEN)
We ate dinner as a family, at the actual TABLE, and the kids LOVED their dinners, and even set the table and cleaned up their plates afterward. It was hilarious, BTW, watching Jakob put his plate in the dishwasher. We tried to explain, "No, not in the sink, Jakey-- put in in the dishwasher,"--- so he flung it in there like a frisbee. "There you go, mommy!" he said proudly! He takes things so literally at 3 y/o!
Fred gave them baths and I went down to the tradmill and ran 5.2 miles. I am quite proud of my distance tonight. Especially after being a total slacker for a few weeks, I'm feeling like I'm getting back on track with my training schedule.
I got to sing to Jake tonight, which was a treat since he's been a total Daddy's boy for the last 5 days. His night-night song routine lately is typically:
1. Twinkle Twinkle Little Star
2. Fly Me to the Moon
3. Swing Low Sweet Chariot
4. The Very Thought of You
5. The More I See You
and 6. Take me out to the Ballgame, complete with choreography.
I got to rock Mia to sleep too-- she likes primarily Disney Princess songs, mixed in with a few others:
1. "Snow White, both kinds" (AKA "Someday My Prince Will Come" and "I'm Wishing"
2. "Cinderella" (AKA "A Dream is a Wish Your Heart Makes")
3. "Belle" (AKA "Beauty and the Beast")
4. "Ariel" (AKA "Part of That World")
5. Row Row Row Your Boat
6. ABC's

So, that's pretty much wraps up the day. It is snowing like crazy outside and I have 4 hysterectomies to do tomorrow-- it should be interesting trying to get there for a 0730 start!

Hi Everyone!

I have been keeping my blog on xanga.com (http://www.xanga.com/hilkoh) , the last several years but am going to move it over to blogspot to be with the google masses.

I am a mom of soon to be 4 y/o boy/girl twins, and in my spare time (haha!) work full time as an OBGYN doctor.

I have a wonderful husband who is a fantastic dad to our little ones, and a great support net of grandparents who live nearby and in Philadelphia; we simply could not do it all without them all!

I love my job, but will probably blog most about daily life as a mom, a girly-girl, and as an emerging runner. I love my babies more than anything in the world, but I still struggle with some things other moms excel at-- daily routines, getting the laundry done, remembering when bath night is, and trying to be interested in cooking at home rather than going out to eat all the time. As a surgeon, the girly-girl thing really throws people for a loop-- I operate in high heels (because I feel like a BOY wearing clunky flats), wear makeup, and bring my purse into the OR with me. I look a little young for my age, so many times people don't think I am the surgeon, which really surprises my patients' families-- I get the "Are you OLD ENOUGH to be DOING THIS???" question at least twice a month. I used to get my feelings hurt, but after turning 34 this past year, now I consider it a compliment. I started running almost a year ago and it has become a fun, healthy new hobby for my husband and me. We are training for a full (him) and half marathon (me) in May 2008. A year ago I wouldn't have WALKED a mile, nevermind signing up to run 13.1 miles! (And in case you're wondering, yes, I still did my hair and wore makeup to the last race I ran)

Stop back and hopefully I will carve out some time to blog!
