My big toenail on my right foot ripped completely off last night, as I jumped up from the table to make sure Jakob wasn't going to fall off the stepstool he was climbing on.
Ouch. It actually didn't hurt that bad. It was basically dead ever since a 15K race I did back in March. I had had to drill a hole in it to relieve the pressure, and after the initial pain then (which I swear hurt more than my c-section), it hasn't bothered me. I have just kept cute shades of blue/ green/ purple nail polish on it and no one was the wiser of how gross it looked.
The only thing that hurt from it getting ripped all the way off was my feelings. Now I'm on a quest to find a pedicurist who will make me a new acrylic toenail. The sites I've read online on SpaGeek.com and a few others say it is indeed possible but that it'll have to be put on with prosthetic glue. So anyone know where I find that? I'm thinking Dermabond won't work. Hmm. Well, that'll be my online project for tonight if I ever get another break-- full house on L&D, 2 sick patients on the floor, and 4 people on Magnesium. I think I'll have my hands full!

Oh, Heather - eew! I'm so sorry! I think you ought to be able to glue something on. Will your nail regrow?
Yes, it will regrow, but will take a full year they say. A very nice lady at Nail Envy in West Chester reconstructed my tonail and glued it back on. Kind of gross, but at least it looks pretty now and I got a full pedicure! She did tell me that my other big toenail will fall off too in the next month and I will probably lose 3 other ones too. That'll teach me for running with poorly fitted shoes!
