It is with a little sadness that I post today, after nearly an entire summer and most of fall have gone by since my last post. You see, I carry a little black book around with me everywhere in my purse. It's the place that I jot down all the cute things that the kids say, the situations they get into, and just generally stuff I don't want to forget. I have done this for the last 2 years, keeping track of things as innocuous as Jakob getting a good behavior star at school to special recipes, books to read, and the kids' heights/ weights at the doctor's office. I love my little book.
But now it is gone.
We ran the Nike marathon in San Francisco on 10/19/08, and we got to spend a few extra days in Napa Valley after the race. I was basically robbed by Hertz for the amount of money I paid for the Ford Focus we rented, and was charged $55 for being 20 minutes late returning the car, since they closed the interstate due to a semi-truck crash complete with massive fuel spill. TWENTY MINUTES, FIFTY FIVE DOLLARS. Over something I had no control over. ANYWAY, in our haste to get out of the car lest another minute cost me another hundred bucks, my little black book got left behind. We've called lost and found numerous times and no one will return our call. It is now 2 weeks later. I'm heartbroken.
However, it is a good reminder to take my little book out of my purse more often and blog its findings in the forever-enduring world of cyberspace. I miss you, little black book, and all the memories recorded that I'll never recall without you. And Hertz, I'm not real happy with you!
